Terms & Conditions

Last updated: July 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of CheatLess. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to these Terms. Please also read our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your data. In these Terms, "CheatLess," "we," "us," and "our" refer to the CheatLess platform, built and run by Mark Kakoma. "You" refers to the person using it.

1. About CheatLess

CheatLess is an academic integrity platform that gives students a focused writing environment for their assignments and helps educators understand how that writing came together.

2. Who Can Use CheatLess

We are intended for use within educational settings. Students access the platform through work assigned by a teacher or school, and it is designed to be adopted by teachers and schools, not by children directly. Where students are minors, the school or teacher is responsible for providing any notice to parents and obtaining any consent required under applicable law. See our Privacy Policy for details on how we handle student data and minors.

3. Accounts

When you create an account, you agree to provide accurate information and to keep your login credentials secure. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account. You may update or delete your account at any time through your settings.

4. Acceptable Use

CheatLess is intended for legitimate educational use only. You agree that you will not:

  • Attempt to circumvent, disable, or interfere with the platform's integrity features;
  • Use the platform for any purpose other than completing or assessing assigned academic work;
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or data;
  • Attempt to copy, resell, or reverse-engineer the platform for commercial purposes.

We may suspend or terminate access for users who violate these Terms.

5. Analysis & Educator Judgment

Our analysis is designed to support educators, not to replace their judgment. Its results are advisory only and are intended as evidence for an educator to weigh, never as a sole verdict. They should not be used as the sole basis for any academic integrity decision, and educators retain full responsibility for any decisions regarding student work.

6. Student Data & Schools

A student's writing sessions are accessible only to that student and to the educator who assigned the work. When a school or teacher uses the platform with their students, we act as a data processor on the school's behalf, handling student information under the school's direction and only to provide the service. Where CheatLess is used by a school under a formal agreement, that agreement — including any data protection addendum — governs how student records are handled. Full details are set out in our Privacy Policy.

7. Intellectual Property

CheatLess — including its software, design, and content (excluding user-submitted work) — is owned by Mark Kakoma and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Students retain ownership of the writing they produce; we process that writing only to provide the service described in these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

8. Service Availability

We aim to keep the platform available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features from time to time, and we are not liable for any loss resulting from service interruptions or changes.

9. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability

CheatLess is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. Our analysis is advisory and is not a determination of academic misconduct. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Mark Kakoma and CheatLess will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform, or for any academic integrity decisions made by educators or institutions using it.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
