This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and protect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. In this policy, "CheatLess," "we," "us," and "our" refer to the CheatLess platform, built and run by Mark Kakoma. "You" refers to the person using it.
When a student completes an assignment, we collect:
We collect this information only to provide the writing environment and to generate authenticity analysis and feedback for the assigning educator.
We analyze each writing session to assess the authenticity of the work and generate feedback for the educator who assigned it. This analysis is performed by our own system. To present the results as a clear, plain-language report, the submission text is sent to an AI provider (Anthropic) to help phrase the findings; Anthropic does not use this content to train its models, and personal account details such as email addresses are never sent to it. We do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not share submission content or personal information with any other third parties for their own purposes.
Adult students (18 and over) may be offered an optional choice to allow us to retain their writing data to help improve the service over time. This choice is entirely optional, is off by default, and is never offered to students under 18. Where a student provides this consent, we record it — but we do not currently use any data collected under it. Any such use will only begin once we have appropriate legal and privacy safeguards in place, and we will update this policy before doing so. If you have given this consent and wish to withdraw it, you may do so by deleting your account or contacting us.
We rely on a small number of trusted service providers to operate:
These providers process data only to provide their service to us and are bound by their own data protection commitments. Documents you export (such as PDF reports) are generated on our own systems.
We and the service providers listed above operate on infrastructure that may be located in the United States. If you access CheatLess from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries whose data protection laws differ from those in your own country. We take steps to ensure your data remains protected in line with this policy wherever it is processed.
Student data is stored on secure infrastructure, and information is encrypted in transit between your device and our services. While no system can be guaranteed completely secure, we take reasonable measures to protect the information we hold from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.
We retain writing and session data until the student deletes their account, the assignment is removed, or a school, teacher, parent, or eligible student requests deletion. When a student deletes their account, their writing sessions and analysis are permanently removed, unless the student is an adult who has given the optional consent described in Section 3, in which case their personal identity is removed and their remaining data is de-identified. On request from a school, teacher, parent, or eligible student, we will delete a student's data.
We are built for educational settings, where many students are under the age of 18, and some may be under 13. We take this seriously.
CheatLess is designed to be adopted by teachers and schools, not by children directly. When a school or teacher uses it with their students, the school or teacher is responsible for providing any notice to parents and obtaining any consent required under applicable law, including COPPA, FERPA, GDPR, and equivalent local regulations. In these settings, we act as a data processor on the school's behalf: we handle student information under the school's direction and only to provide the service described here.
A student's writing sessions are accessible only to that student and to the educator who assigned the work. Student data is used solely for the educational purpose of the assignment and is never sold, shared with advertisers, or used to train AI models.
We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 outside of a school or teacher relationship. If you believe a child has used CheatLess without appropriate school or parental involvement, contact us and we will delete the information.
Where CheatLess is used by a school under a formal agreement, that agreement — including any data protection addendum — governs how student records are handled, consistent with the school's obligations. We are willing to enter into data protection agreements with institutions where required.
Our analysis is designed to support educators, not to replace their judgment. Results are advisory only and are intended as evidence for an educator to weigh, never as a sole verdict. They should not be used as the sole basis for any academic integrity decision, and educators retain full responsibility for any decisions regarding student work.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data, including the right to access it, correct it, or request its deletion. Students, teachers, parents, and schools may request deletion of student data at any time. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email listed below.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
